Most small business owners know they should be posting consistently on social media. Most of them aren't — because building a content calendar feels like a full-time job on top of running the actual business.
Here's a system that takes 20 minutes a month.
The 3-source content calendar
Every month, pick three sources:
- Your website — paste your homepage or a service page to generate posts about what you do
- A news article — something relevant to your industry, so you can comment on it and position yourself as an expert
- A competitor or inspiration — paste their URL to generate content on similar topics but with your angle
Three URLs. Twelve posts per URL. Thirty-six posts total. That's more than one post per day across all platforms for the entire month.
Platform rhythm that actually works
For most UK small businesses, this rhythm works well:
- LinkedIn: 3-4 times per week, Tuesday to Thursday mornings
- Instagram: 4-5 times per week, evenings and weekends
- Facebook: 3-4 times per week, midday
- Twitter/X: daily if possible, mornings and early evenings
The 20-minute monthly content session
- Open Virlo Studio
- Paste your three URLs one at a time into Content Intelligence
- Review the generated posts — delete anything that doesn't fit, keep the rest
- Schedule your favourites at peak times using the engagement heat map
- Set and forget until next month
What to do with the leftover posts
You'll generate more posts than you can use in a month. Save the best ones in a draft folder and use them to fill gaps, or repurpose them in the following month with minor edits. Good posts can be reused every 6-8 weeks without most followers noticing.
The point isn't to post everything. It's to never be stuck for content again.
